A caddie put on trial for failing to fulfill safety management duties in connection with an accident in which a person was struck in the eye by a golf ball and lost sight has been fined.
According to legal sources on the 26th, Im Jin-su, Director General Judge of the Cheongju District Court Criminal Division 2, recently fined A, a caddie in their 30s who was indicted without detention on a charge of occupational negligence resulting in injury, 4 million won.
A was indicted on suspicion of causing an accident by neglecting safety management duties at a golf course in Cheongju at about 11:30 a.m. on June 11, 2023, where a customer in A's charge was hit by a golf ball and injured.
At the time, the customer was struck in one eye by a colleague's golf ball that was hit after the customer's shot from a point 15 meters to the left rear, and lost sight.
Director General Judge Im said, "A caddie has a duty of care to check whether anyone is in the direction of the shot and, if so, to ask them to move or stop play, but it is acknowledged that the defendant took no measures, such as merely waiting near a nearby cart."
