The second consolidated special counsel team (Special Prosecutor Kwon Chan-young) raided the prosecution's internal network "E-Pros" server to investigate allegations that former Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung was involved in the Dec. 3 martial law, among other matters. The second consolidated special counsel team (hereafter the consolidated special counsel team) is currently investigating the remaining allegations after the three special counsels (insurrection, Kim Keon-hee, and the Marine who died in the line of duty).
According to legal sources on the 25th, the consolidated special counsel team executed a search and seizure warrant late the previous night for the Supreme Prosecutors' Office E-Pros server in Seo District, Gwangju. The raid was reportedly aimed at identifying internal prosecution messenger records related to the review of dispatching prosecutors to the joint investigation headquarters during the Dec. 3 martial law and the decision to forgo an immediate appeal regarding the cancellation of former President Yoon Suk-yeol's detention.
Former Prosecutor General Shim is under suspicion of having reviewed dispatching prosecutors to the martial law joint investigation headquarters (Joint Investigation Headquarters) on Dec. 3, 2024, under instructions from former Minister of Justice Park Sung-jae during the period of martial law. During the martial law situation, Shim was said to have had three phone calls with Park. In addition, the decision in March last year to forgo an immediate appeal against the court's cancellation of detention for Yoon is also under investigation.
The consolidated special counsel team plans to continue executing warrants going forward. Earlier, on the 23rd, the consolidated special counsel team also conducted a search and seizure at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office to investigate allegations related to former Prosecutor General Shim.
This is reportedly the first time a search and seizure warrant has been executed for the entire Supreme Prosecutors' Office E-Pros server. The consolidated special counsel team said, "The start time of the warrant execution was delayed to comply with procedures under the Criminal Procedure Act," and explained, "Upon reaching late night, we halted the execution and the search team withdrew."
