A wildfire that broke out in a national forest in Samcheok, Gangwon Province, was extinguished in 1 hour and 30 minutes.
According to the Gangwon Province Wildfire Prevention Headquarters and others on the 25th, a wildfire occurred at about 5:33 p.m. in a national forest in Sugan-ri, Hajang-myeon, Samcheok, and was contained at about 7 p.m., about 1 hour and 30 minutes later.
Forest and fire authorities deployed six helicopters and were said to have completed suppression of the main blaze. In addition, 126 personnel, including a special wildfire suppression unit, were mobilized.
Forest authorities plan to mop up remaining embers and monitor for rekindling. They also scheduled an investigation into the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage. No casualties were confirmed.
Meanwhile, a dry weather advisory was issued on the day for Samcheok, where the wildfire occurred, and the southern mountain areas of Gangwon.
