Son Woong-jung, the father of national soccer team member Son Heung-min, filed a petition urging a stern investigation into Jang, Son Heung-min's former agent, who is accused of fraud and other charges.
According to police and others on the 24th, Son submitted the petition the previous day to the Financial Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, which is handling Jang's case, saying, "Please take Jang into custody and conduct a thorough investigation so that no more victims occur."
In the petition, Son said, "I have never signed any document that transfers Son Heung-min's advertising or portrait rights," and emphasized, "The company with exclusive and monopolistic agent authority with Son Heung-min from 2013 to the present is Son & Football Limited."
Jang represented Son Heung-min's domestic activities for more than 10 years in the past, and in 2019, while selling Sports United (now ICM Stella Korea), where Jang was the CEO, proposed to A, the head of an investment company, an exclusive agent contract bearing the signatures of Son Woong-jung and Son Heung-min.
A trusted the contract and decided to purchase equity, then paid the transaction price. But when Son Heung-min's side later learned of this, they refuted, "We did not draw up such a contract," ended their contractual relationship with Jang, and A filed a complaint against Jang on charges including fraud.
Jang filed a lawsuit against Son & Football Limited seeking settlement money and other claims, but in 2024 the court said, "It is difficult to see that Jang held exclusive authority regarding Son Heung-min," and only partially accepted Jang's claims.
