Mapo District Administrator Park Kang-su will formalize a bid for reelection in the local elections scheduled for June 3 on the 23rd.
Park, the People Power Party candidate for Mapo District Administrator, will hold a press conference at the campaign office in Hapjeong-dong, Mapo District, Seoul, that day to officially declare a run for a second term.
At the press conference, Park will disclose administrative results since taking office in numerical terms and unveil six key pledges and a vision. According to Park's camp, 35.5 of 36 pledges were completed during the term, for a fulfillment rate of 99.8%. The pledge achievement rate is 98.6%. The fulfillment rate measures how fully all pledges have been completed overall, while the achievement rate gauges whether pledges planned by year were carried out.
Park said, "Over four years in office, I personally handled 236,000 civil complaints and operated an on-site district administrator's office 640 times," adding, "Instead of staying in the administrator's office, I fulfilled the promise I made at the start of my term by going on-site to hear residents' opinions directly and reflecting them in policy."
He cited the senior welfare model "Hyo-do meal table" and the tourism and commercial district recovery project "Red Road" as representative achievements during the term. The Hyo-do meal table is a program that provides lunch to seniors age 75 and older. According to Mapo District, more than 3,000 people use it per day on average. Red Road is a redevelopment of a previously neglected back street into a cultural district. It has become a local landmark visited by 9.85 million foreign tourists annually.
Park is also set to present key pledges at the press conference that day. The main pledges are: ▲expansion of the "four-piece filial set" (Hyo-do meal table, Hyo-do lodging senior center, Hyo-do funeral hall, Hyo-do school) ▲swift promotion of redevelopment and reconstruction ▲Mapo retention basin "365 culture and sports complex development" ▲districtwide expansion of public postnatal care centers and babysitter houses ▲support for upzoning and higher floor area ratios ▲creation of a youth AI (artificial intelligence) industrial complex on the Sangam western driver's license test site, among others.
Park said, "With the resolve that the one who starts must see it through to the end, I will once again make a bold move."
The People Power Party Seoul Metropolitan Chapter Nomination Management Committee (Chairperson Bae Hyun-jin, National Assembly member) single-recommended incumbent Administrator Park Kang-su to the central party as the Mapo District administrator candidate for the June 3 local elections in March. Park then completed registration as a preliminary candidate for Mapo District administrator on Apr. 13. After the reelection bid declaration that day, the campaign office is also set to open on May 12.
