An SK hynix employee became the first office worker to join the North Chungcheong Honor Society.
A, an employee in their 40s at the SK hynix Cheongju campus, donated 100 million won to the Community Chest of Korea in North Chungcheong on Jan., becoming the 99th member of the North Chungcheong Honor Society. It is the first case of an office worker being named to the North Chungcheong Honor Society members group, which has been centered on corporations.
After making a large anonymous donation at the time, A asked the fundraising organization not to disclose the donation to the outside. However, after persistent persuasion from the organization that the good deed could serve as a model, it became public.
A, who requested anonymity, told Yonhap News on the 23rd, "I only did my part, but I was initially embarrassed, worrying I might draw excessive attention because of the company name," and added, "But just as I was motivated by hearing about other colleagues' giving, I thought my news might lead someone else to donate."
A, who said they have made regular contributions to several volunteer groups for the past 10-plus years, explained, "SK Group's management philosophy is that we should also pursue the happiness of people around us outside the company," adding, "As I took related in-house training, I came to want to contribute to the local community. Going forward, I plan to continue donating to advance medical technology."
The Honor Society is a group of individual major donors who have donated at least 100 million won or pledged to pay within five years.
