On the 23rd (local time), Presidential Office Policy Chief Kim Yong-beom said of the Samsung Electronics labor union's strike notice, "I hope it will be resolved wisely through dialogue."
Deputy Minister Kim made the remarks at an on-site briefing in Hanoi regarding President Lee Jae-myung's state visit to Vietnam, when asked whether the government could step in to mediate in the event of a Samsung Electronics strike.
Kim said, "We do not yet view it as a particular problem. We think labor and management are not at a breaking point, so it will likely be resolved well." When asked whether President Lee had been briefed on the matter, Kim answered, "The president has not separately commented on it."
Earlier, the Samsung Electronics union held a rally of 40,000 people that day demanding the abolition of the cap on performance bonuses and announced a general strike.
