The Seoul City Hall labor union chairperson was handed over to prosecutors on suspicion of taking money in exchange for a job.
The Dobong Police Station in Seoul said on the 21st that it referred without detention a person surnamed Joo, chairperson of the Seoul City Hall union affiliated with the Federation of Korean Trade Unions, on charges of job brokerage and fraud.
From Feb. 2023 to Sep. 2023, Joo is accused of promising two victims employment as environmental officials at the district office where Joo works and taking a total of 35 million won in return.
Police detected indications that Joo received kickbacks and in Jan. conducted searches and seizures at locations including the environmental officials' union office.
It was found that the victims filed complaints after the employment promised by Chairperson Joo was not fulfilled.
Chairperson Joo is said to be claiming to have returned all the money to the victims.
