A 30-something Namsung who stole valuables worth tens of millions of won from TV personality Park Na-rae's (41) home has received a finalized two-year prison sentence.
The Supreme Court's First Division (Presiding Justice Shin Suk-hee) said on the 20th that it dismissed the appeal and upheld the lower court's ruling on the 16th in the case of a person surnamed Jeong (38), who was indicted on charges of theft and nighttime residential burglary.
Jeong was brought to trial on charges of breaking into Park's home in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, in April last year and fleeing after stealing valuables worth tens of millions of won.
The first trial in September last year sentenced Jeong to two years in prison. The court noted, "The defendant admits to the charges and returned the valuables to the victim," but took into account Jeong's prior record for similar offenses and the high value of the stolen items.
Jeong appealed, but the appellate court dismissed the appeal in February this year. The appellate panel said, "The offense was committed during a suspended sentence period."
Jeong appealed again, but the Supreme Court found the grounds for appeal improper and dismissed it.
