A man in his 50s, accused of swinging his fist at a driver who asked for the taxi fare and throwing a brick at a parked car to damage it, was sentenced to prison.
On the 19th, Judge Jeong Jong-geon, Criminal Division 1 single-judge panel of the Chuncheon District Court, said A (53), who was indicted on charges of assaulting a driver under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes and special property damage, was sentenced to 10 months in prison.
Prosecutors said A was indicted for hitting taxi driver B (70) in the face in Chuncheon in Sept. last year while holding a hat that A had taken off, after picking a fight by saying the driver "took a long detour" when asked to pay the fare.
In Aug. of the same year, A is also accused of causing 1.6 million won in property damage by throwing a brick at a parked car in a parking lot in Chuncheon while heavily intoxicated.
Earlier, A was sentenced to prison by the same court in Sept. 2024 for assault and other charges. It is also reported that A committed these offenses again even after being sentenced to another prison term by the same court in Oct. last year for causing injury to a lineal ascendant and other charges.
Judge Jeong said the reason for sentencing was that "the defendant has a history of multiple punishments for violent crimes and repeatedly committed this case during the repeat-offender period resulting from that," adding, "the victims' damages have not been remedied."
