The wolf "Neukgu" that escaped from Daejeon O-World was captured on the 17th. It was nine days after the escape on the 8th.
According to the Daejeon city government, search authorities captured Neukgu alive at 12:44 a.m. near the Anyoung Interchange (IC) on the Daejeon Southern Ring Expressway in Anyoung-dong, Jung District, Daejeon, and transported the animal to O-World.
Search authorities spotted Neukgu at 11:45 p.m. the previous day near the Anyoung IC and launched a capture operation.
When found, Neukgu looked tired but still had stamina and remained highly wary. Search officials approached with tranquilizer guns and succeeded in capturing the animal by firing a dart. Even after being hit with a tranquilizer, Neukgu staggered and tried to flee for about five minutes but fell into a nearby waterway and was captured.
Video released by the Daejeon city government from the time of capture showed three or four men moving Neukgu in a waterway. Saying, "Breathe well! We'll move quickly," they checked the wolf's condition and hurried the transfer.
After being moved to O-World, Neukgu was found to have a fishhook in the stomach but reportedly underwent removal surgery without incident. It is presumed the wolf ate a fish recovered by an angler during the escape period. Neukgu is currently resting in an isolation area.
At 9:18 a.m. on the 8th, Neukgu dug under the chain-link fence of the Daejeon O-World safari and escaped, and authorities have conducted a large-scale search centered on O-World through today.
