President Jeong Guk-young of Daejeon City Corporation apologized over the incident in which the wolf "Neukgu" escaped from Daejeon O-World and said the corporation would draw up measures to prevent a recurrence.
Jeong held a press conference in front of the O-World main gate on the 17th and said, "I deeply apologize for causing great concern and inconvenience to citizens due to this wolf escape," adding, "I bow my head in apology for causing confusion at a zoo whose mission is animal protection and species conservation."
To prevent a recurrence, the corporation said it will conduct a comprehensive inspection of facilities and the overall operating system jointly with an external specialized agency. It said any problems identified during the inspection will be addressed immediately.
As this incident led to public anxiety after an animal escaped outside, the corporation plans to promptly put in place double and triple safety devices to prevent animals from getting out externally, in addition to internal anti-escape measures in the enclosures.
Jeong said, "We will completely overhaul our management system to ensure that a similar accident never happens again," and added, "I am deeply grateful for the dedicated efforts of the related agencies that joined the search from on the 8th until capture."
