A police officer who was the real-life model for the detective character "Ma Seok-do," played by actor Ma Dong-seok in the action film "The Roundup," has been sent to trial for drunken driving.
On the 17th, according to legal sources, the Criminal Division 1 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (headed by Shin Do-uk) indicted Inspector A without detention on the 15th on charges of drunken driving under the Road Traffic Act.
Inspector A is said to have caused a fender-bender while driving after drinking near Gangnam Severance Hospital in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, at 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 24 last year. The blood alcohol concentration at the time was at a license-revocation level (0.08% or higher), and there were reportedly no casualties.
Inspector A was relieved of duty after the drunken driving. Inspector A's work is known to have been the motif for "The Roundup" protagonist Ma Seok-do. Ma Dong-seok, who starred in and produced "The Roundup," is said to have conceived the film after interviewing detectives about their experiences.
