As projections grow that SK hynix's performance bonuses will reach hundreds of millions of won, a post by a production worker on an online community is drawing attention.
On the 14th, an anonymous workplace community, "Blind," carried a post by a person identifying as a SK hynix production worker, referred to as A.
A wrote in the post, "Since I didn't even study well in middle school, I didn't even dream of an academic-track high school and planned to find a job early," adding, "I went to a local technical high school, comfortably ranked No. 2 in the entire school, and joined here after changing jobs last year."
They added, "I never once attended cram schools and the like, so there was nothing to spend money on," and "there's no route with better value for money."
A also said, "Of course I know well that office and production roles differ from the difficulty of getting hired," and "I'm someone who assesses my own level well, so even if I went to a four-year university, I didn't think I could get into a major company, let alone a mid-sized one, which is why I chose early employment."
A added, "Of course, someone with better credentials and outstanding ability could have been hired instead of me. I think a lot of luck naturally has to follow."
With demand for AI Semiconductors expanding, there are projections that SK hynix's annual operating profit could reach about 250 trillion won. Given that the company pays 10% of operating profit to employees as a "profit sharing (PS)" bonus, the performance bonus pool is estimated at 25 trillion won. Dividing that by the roughly 35,000 employees yields an average performance bonus of about 700 million won per person.
