Police have requested an arrest warrant for a high school student suspected of stabbing a teacher with a weapon and injuring the teacher.
The Nonsan Police Station in South Chungcheong said on the 14th that it requested an arrest warrant for 12th grader A on suspicion of attempted murder for brandishing a weapon at a teacher and fleeing.
A is suspected of repeatedly swinging a weapon at B, a teacher in his 30s, at a high school in Gyeryong, South Chungcheong, at about 8:44 a.m. the previous day, injuring the teacher. A fled and then turned themself in by calling 112.
B suffered injuries to the jaw and shoulder and was taken to a hospital for surgery. However, the injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
A had reportedly harbored resentment, saying that B, who worked as the head of student affairs at A's middle school years, singled A out for scolding. B transferred last month to the high school where A is enrolled, and after A continued to run into B at school, A requested counseling and refused to attend classes, according to reports.
A had since been attending an alternative school in Cheonan, but on the day of the offense, A suddenly came to the school, it was found.
Police are investigating whether A may have prepared the offense in a premeditated manner.
