Minister Hwang Jong-woo of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said on the 14th that, with the supplementary budget confirming the fuel price-linked subsidy, the price of tax-free fuel will soon fall to the low 1,200 won range.
The Minister said this while meeting with reporters after holding a meeting with cooperative heads of the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives at the Incheon Fisheries Safety and Operation Bureau on the day, saying, Tax-free fuel that was 880 won per liter last month rose to 1,381 won this month. We know well that the burden on people in the fisheries sector is heavy.
He said, If we had not implemented the price ceiling system, the price of tax-free fuel would have exceeded 1,800 won, but fortunately we were able to bring it down to 1,381 won, and During discussions on the supplementary budget bill in the National Assembly, the budget for the fuel price-linked subsidy increased from 46.8 billion won to 56.2 billion won, allowing more support for fishers.
The Minister added, We will seek other support measures as well as the fuel price-linked subsidy, and The National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives is also preparing to provide 10 billion won in management funds for people in the fisheries sector.
Regarding concerns about rising seafood prices due to increases in fuel and other expenses, the Minister said, To ease the burden of grocery prices on the public, we additionally reflected a 30 billion won budget for win-win discount support for seafood, and We will continue to pay attention so that the public can enjoy seafood at prices that are not burdensome.
The Minister visited the Incheon General Fish Market on the day to check trends in seafood prices. The seafood purchased while touring the market was donated to senior welfare facilities in the Incheon area.
He then held a meeting with people in the fisheries sector at the nearby Fisheries Safety and Operation Bureau of the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives and asked about the fishing situation via video call with Captain Ham In-gil (52) of the 77 Gwangjin, who was engaged in fishing off Yeongjong Island in the West Sea.
