During a follow-up search to recover the unrecovered remains of victims at the scene of the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster at Muan International Airport on Dec. 29, 2024, 85 pieces presumed to be remains were found two days after operations began.
According to the bereaved families' council for the Dec. 29 Muan Airport Jeju Air passenger plane disaster on the 14th, recovery authorities conducted a search in the area of Muan International Airport in South Jeolla on this day and found 73 pieces presumed to be remains. Among them was an item presumed to be a shinbone measuring 15 centimeters.
Recovery authorities also found 12 pieces presumed to be remains and two personal effects during the follow-up search the previous day.
Earlier, during a reinvestigation of the crash debris, authorities additionally recovered 115 objects presumed to be remains, and with 74 of them confirmed as the remains of 44 victims, they launched a full-scale follow-up search.
As more than a year has passed since the crash, the search is proceeding by digging the ground up to 1 meter and sifting the soil through a sieve.
