A wanted person was caught while littering a cigarette butt. The man fled after refusing a police check and was caught after being hit with a Taser.
Siheung Police Station in Gyeonggi said it arrested a person in their 20s, identified as A, on suspicion of violating the Resident Registration Act, among other charges.
At about 3:10 a.m. that day, A was caught by police while throwing a cigarette butt on the street. During the stop, A is suspected of using another person's resident registration number with a police officer.
Police responded to a report related to an assault case involving A's acquaintances and took measures, then conducted another check when A littered a cigarette butt.
When asked for identification, A said the ID was left behind and provided a resident registration number. However, due to A's suspicious demeanor, police ran a fingerprint comparison, and it was confirmed in the process that the resident registration number provided was not A's.
A then tried to flee and resisted, including swinging a fist at police. Officers used a Taser to subdue A and arrested A at the scene.
When police later checked A's personal records, they found A had been on a wanted list over four cases, including assault, forgery of private documents, and violations of the Special Act on the Prevention of Insurance Fraud, due to unpaid fines and other issues. Police are investigating the specific circumstances of the cases involving A.
