A man in his 50s who even cut off his own finger to collect insurance money was caught by police.
Incheon Seobu Police Station said on the 13th that it arrested a person in his 50s, identified only as A, on suspicion of violating the Act on the Prevention of Insurance Fraud and the Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance Act, among other laws.
A is accused of falsely claiming insurance money after repeatedly severing four of his own fingers at a factory in Incheon from June 2024 to March last year. A collected a total of 250 million won in insurance payouts through insurers and the Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service (K-COMWEL).
Police apprehended A after conducting an investigation based on a tip. Police applied for a pre-arrest warrant based on A's insurance claim records, and the court issued the warrant after a pretrial detention hearing.
Police plan to refer A to prosecutors in custody soon.
