A captain in his 50s who went out alone to fish off Busan has gone missing, and the Korea Coast Guard has launched a search.
According to the Busan Maritime Police Station on the 12th, at about 5:30 a.m. that day, the A, a 2.99-ton (t) coastal gillnet fishing boat registered in Busan Dadae, was found adrift without any crew about 2 kilometers east of Bukhyungje Island in Saha District, Busan.
The Korea Coast Guard had begun checking the location after receiving a report from the A's captain's family that they "could not reach" the captain.
The A was reported to have departed at about 6:30 p.m. the previous day, and no collision marks were found on the hull when it was discovered. The vessel was towed to Dadae Port with the cooperation of a private fishing boat.
The Korea Coast Guard is mobilizing all available personnel and equipment to search the waters around the accident site, while the circumstances of the accident is under investigation targeting nearby vessels and others.
