As the wolf "Neukgu," which escaped from the safari in Daejeon O-World, remained uncaught for a third day, overseas even a meme coin themed after Neukgu has been issued.
According to the virtual asset industry on Apr. 10, some overseas cryptocurrency exchanges are circulating a coin named after Neukgu, "Neukgu."
A total of 160 million units of the coin were issued on Apr. 8, bringing total liquidity to $20,000.
The coin is a typical meme coin (hype-driven cryptocurrency) created on Apr. 8, with a supply of 160 million units and total liquidity of $20,000.
A social media (SNS) account named after Neukgu has also been created. On X, an English account page, "Neukgu," has been opened and about 500 people are following it so far. The account is posting search-related news and other items along with the introduction, "Neukgu, the lonely wolf that escaped from Daejeon O-World."
However, caution is advised as the page also carries posts promoting the Neukgu coin.
Neukgu escaped O-World on the morning of Apr. 8 and was spotted several times in nearby areas, but was not captured. Two sighting reports were filed the previous night as well, but the animal was not found. Thermal camera–equipped drones and other equipment are currently being deployed for the search.
President Lee Jae-myung also posted on his X the previous day cheering for "Neukgu's safe return." The post has been reposted 1,287 times so far and has 4,567 likes.
