A man who threw stones at the roof tiles on the wall of Deoksugung, damaging them, was taken into custody by police. He said he was angry because the British Embassy is next to Deoksugung.
The Namdaemun Police Station in Seoul said on the 9th that it arrested a man in his 30s, identified only as A, on suspicion of violating the Cultural Heritage Protection Act.
A was accused of throwing two stones inside Deoksugung at about 5 p.m. on the 8th, breaking one roof tile. At the time of the arrest, A was quoted as saying that "I was angry that the British Embassy is next to Deoksugung."
A was not believed to have been intoxicated at the time of the offense and reportedly tested negative in a preliminary drug reagent test.
Police said they plan to investigate A further to determine the exact sequence of events.
