The Seoul Regional Labor Relations Commission on the 9th dismissed the "request to separate the bargaining unit" that the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) National Courier Workers' Union filed against Coupang CLS. This is the first time since on the 10th of last month the yellow envelope law, a new labor law aimed at strengthening the bargaining rights of subcontract workers, took effect that a labor commission has rejected a subcontracted union's request to separate a bargaining unit.
The majority union at Coupang CLS is the Federation of Korean Trade Unions courier industry union, and the Seoul Regional Labor Relations Commission determined that if there is no significant difference in working conditions or employment type between unions, there is no need to split the bargaining unit. It told them to unify the channel and enter talks.
On the 10th of last month, when the Federation of Korean Trade Unions courier industry union demanded collective bargaining with Coupang CLS, the National Courier Workers' Union filed a request for separation, saying it would negotiate separately from the Federation of Korean Trade Unions–affiliated union.
