Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency said on the 9th that it referred son-in-law Jo Jae-bok, 26, to prosecutors in custody on charges including killing a lineal ascendant and abandoning a body, after he fatally assaulted his mother-in-law for hours and then put her body in a suitcase and dumped it. Earlier, Choi, the victim's daughter and Jo's wife, was also referred to prosecutors in custody on a charge of abandoning a body.
Police said Jo is suspected of assaulting his mother-in-law, in her 50s, at his home in Jung-gu, Daegu, for about 12 hours on Mar. 17, causing her death, then putting the body in a suitcase at about 10 a.m. on the 18th and dumping it along the Sincheon stream near the residence. His wife, Choi, helped Jo Jae-bok and abandoned the victim's body together.
At about 8:50 a.m. that day, Jo, who came out of the police station bound with a rope, gave no answer when asked if there was anything to say to his mother-in-law.
Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency convened a personal information disclosure committee on the 8th and decided to disclose Jo Jae-bok's personal information. Jo Jae-bok is said to have expressed that he had no objection to the decision to disclose his personal information.
