Authorities are conducting a rescue operation after locating one worker who had been missing following a fire on a submarine undergoing maintenance at the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Ulsan Shipyard.
According to fire authorities and others on the 9th, at about 4:37 p.m. that day, one missing person was found collapsed inside Hong Beom-do (a 1,800-ton-class submarine). The person, a woman in her 60s, had not been confirmed for consciousness or survival.
The fire broke out inside Hong Beom-do at about 1:58 p.m. that day. Of the 47 workers who had begun maintenance, 46 evacuated, but one worker from a partner company did not make it out.
Fire authorities deployed about 30 pieces of equipment, brought the flames under control at about 3:04 p.m., vented smoke, and continued search operations.
