Firefighters who put out a fire on a submarine undergoing maintenance at the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Ulsan shipyard in Dong-gu, Ulsan, are searching for one missing person.
According to fire authorities and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries on the 9th, a fire broke out at 1:58 p.m. on Hong Beom-do, an 1,800-ton-class submarine undergoing a major overhaul.
After receiving the report, fire authorities issued Response Level 1 and began extinguishing the blaze. The fire was completely put out around 3:04 p.m., and work is underway to vent the smoke.
There were 47 people working inside the submarine. Of these, 46 evacuated, but the whereabouts of one person remain unknown.
An HD Hyundai Heavy Industries official said, "We have not been able to confirm the whereabouts of one worker and are currently making an all-out effort on a joint search and rescue operation with fire authorities."
