It has been confirmed that Dokdo is labeled as Takeshima (竹島) on Strava, a workout tracking application (app) with 100 million users.
Seo Gyeong-duk, a professor at Sungshin Women's University, said on the 7th on social media (SNS) that "I learned about it through tips from internet users," and noted, "It had incorrectly labeled the 'Dokdo Observatory Cable Car' on Ulleungdo as the 'Takeshima Observatory Cable Car.'"
After confirming the issue, Seo said he sent a complaint email to Strava, saying, "Dokdo is clearly territory of the Republic of Korea in terms of history, geography, and international law," and added, "The Takeshima label is wrong," and, "We ask that you correct it as soon as possible."
He added, "Because the app is used virtually as a standard platform by rider and running communities around the world, the incorrect labeling must be fixed," and, "It is concerning that incorrect labels about Dokdo continue to be found on websites, apps, and other platforms widely used by people around the world."
Seo concluded, "If you report issues as soon as you find them, we will take action as quickly as possible."
