A story that a customer at a kimbap shop told their children in front of the owner, "Study hard if you don't want to end up selling kimbap," has sparked controversy.
On the 5th, in the self-employed online community "It Hurts to Be the Boss," a post titled "Study hard if you don't want to be selling kimbap" was uploaded.
According to owner A, who wrote about what happened at the shop, a man among a family of customers who recently visited told his children during the meal, "Study hard. If you don't want to be selling kimbap."
A said they couldn't believe their ears when they heard the remark. Even though a regular who was waiting for a takeout order told the man, "Your words are too much," and pointed out, "You shouldn't speak so ignorantly in front of children," the man showed no reaction and continued eating.
The writer said they briefly worried a fight might break out, but there was no larger clash. A thanked the regular and wrapped up the situation. The family in question also finished their meal and left the shop as if nothing had happened.
The customer in question had visited the store once or twice a year before and was known to speak loudly in the shop and use language bordering on informal speech.
In fact, the customer reportedly also made remarks dismissive of other patrons, telling the children, "Large kimbap is what people without money eat to get full," and ordering only mini kimbap.
A added, "I'm trying not to let people like that get to me anymore," and "Children's character seems to show in their parents' words and attitudes."
As the news spread, internet users reacted with comments such as, "I can't believe someone actually says things like that," "The kids must be more embarrassed," and "So rude."
