A notice appealed that at an all-you-can-eat pork cutlet buffet restaurant in Guro District, Seoul, customers have been secretly packing pork cutlets, salad, and other food into side-dish containers and bags.
According to SBS on the 6th, a notice was posted at restaurant A near Guro Digital Complex Station in Seoul saying, "Recently, several customers have been found secretly packing pork cutlets, salad, and more into side-dish containers they brought from outside and disposable bags."
Restaurant A said, "When we ask them why, the answer is always 'Because I don't think I can finish it,'" adding, "People who say they don't think they can finish it pack 12 pork cutlets each."
It continued, "Until now, for various reasons and out of pity, we only warned them not to do it and let it pass as a minor incident," but added, "If the same thing happens again after this notice, we will report it to the police immediately."
Kang, the restaurant's manager, told SBS, "A few days ago, a man in his 30s was caught as he was leaving with 17 pork cutlets on his back, because his back was sticking out so much," adding, "This hasn't happened just once or twice."
Kang added, "We would think 'we sold about 100 servings,' but when we settled the accounts, we had only been paid for 80," and said, "We used to think maybe there were many hungry customers today and they ate a lot, but recently we've repeatedly caught customers packing food like that."
According to the notice, the largest known case of unauthorized removal so far was someone packing 26 pork cutlets into an 8L kimchi container.
In the notice, restaurant A said, "Until now, for various reasons and out of pity, we only warned people not to do it and let it pass as a minor incident," but added, "If the same thing happens again after this notice, we will report it to the police immediately."
The restaurant is known for offering various menu items such as pork cutlets, jjamppong, tangsuyuk, and assorted seasoned vegetables for 8,000 won, gaining popularity among nearby residents and office workers. Under current law, even if a restaurant offers unlimited food, unauthorized removal can be punished as theft.
