The owner of a gukbap restaurant known for serving free gukbap to national merit honorees said the building owner is giving a discount on the monthly rent.
Park Min-gyu, who runs a gukbap shop in Nowon-gu, Seoul, said on social media (SNS) that "the building owner decided to cut the monthly rent by 50,000 won."
Noh said, "Today, my tears went in a little, so the gukbap will be a bit salty," and added, "The building owner said they saw the news and will cut the monthly rent by 50,000 won starting next month, and told me to treat the seniors to meals."
Park has been providing free gukbap since on Feb. to national merit honorees such as Korean War veterans and Vietnam War veterans, as well as soldiers in uniform.
Park said, "I finally put into practice today one of my business bucket-list items—serving free gukbap to soldiers in uniform," adding, "No matter what anyone says, the fact that they are dedicating themselves to the country in the prime of their youth does not change, so I hope this will be a society where they are more respected."
As the good deed spread through SNS, customers have been continuing "visit verifications," stopping by the shop to show they visited.
