A Namsung suspected of climbing pipes to break into a stranger's home, threatening her with a weapon, and raping her was arrested by police.
Seoul Gangdong Police Station said on the 6th that it urgently arrested A, a Namsung in his 50s, on suspicion of housebreaking and aggravated rape.
According to police, at about 11:58 p.m. on the 4th, A was found to have climbed the building's pipes to enter through a second-floor window of the victim's home and committed the crime. After entering, A is suspected of threatening the victim with a kitchen knife from the kitchen and raping her. A fled immediately after the crime, according to police.
Responding to a report, police tracked A based on fingerprints and closed-circuit (CC)TV secured at the scene and arrested A at about 1 p.m. the next day in Hanam, Gyeonggi.
During police questioning, A reportedly said A knew the victim and that there was no coercion in the crime.
However, police consider A's claim to lack credibility. A and the victim were previously unacquainted, according to reports.
Police plan to soon seek an arrest warrant for A.
