Police said they have identified eight members of the management team behind the online site "AVMOV," which had been distributing illegal recordings.
The Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency said on Apr. 6 at a regular press briefing that "we have identified the identities of eight suspects at the AVMOV site management level and booked them on charges of violating the Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes."
Police last month carried out searches and seizures at the residences of four of them and secured related evidence. For another one, compulsory investigation is planned. The remaining three are currently staying overseas, and authorities are inducing their entry into Korea by invalidating their passports and other measures.
The Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency detected the site and opened a preliminary investigation in Dec. last year. The site, launched in Aug. 2022, has about 540,000 subscribers. On the site, subscribers could share videos filmed without the consent of acquaintances or romantic partners, or download illegal recordings using points purchased for a fee.
