Police carried out special patrols near an industrial complex and caught six foreigners suspected of unlicensed and drunk driving.
According to Hwaseong Seobu Police Station on the 6th, the Balaan police precinct conducted special patrols on the 24th and 25th of last month. Over the two days, they apprehended six foreigners on suspicion of unlicensed and drunk driving and failing to carry mandatory insurance.
Those caught included two Tajik nationals and one each from China, Russia, Vietnam, and Uzbekistan.
A man in his 30s from China, identified as A, whom police arrested, is suspected of drunk driving. The investigation found his blood alcohol concentration exceeded the license revocation threshold.
The area around Hwaseong's "Manse Market," where police conducted the special patrols, has many foreign workers. As of 2024, Hwaseong had the third-largest foreign resident population among basic local governments, after Ansan and Siheung.
In particular, Manse Market is adjacent to a used-car complex, and issues such as foreigners driving without licenses have been raised continuously.
Police plan to block risk factors for traffic accidents in advance by strengthening vehicle record checks and crackdowns, focusing on areas with high concentrations of foreigners.
