Kang Ho-dong, president of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation, who is suspected of receiving over 100 million won in money and valuables, appeared before police on the 4th as a suspect.
The Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency summoned Kang at 10 a.m. to the Metropolitan Investigation Unit building in Mapo District, Seoul, and he is under investigation.
Arriving at the building around 9:30 a.m., Kang answered reporters' questions such as "Do you acknowledge the allegation of receiving money and valuables worth over 100 million won?" and "What is your position on the members' calls for your resignation?" by saying, "I will undergo the investigation as faithfully as possible."
When asked again about allegations such as "misuse of foundation project funds" and "acceptance of a golden key," Kang said, "I will faithfully undergo the investigation." Police suspect that around Jan. 2024, when Kang's election as president of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation was widely expected, he received over 100 million won in money and valuables from the head of a service contractor with a transaction relationship with an affiliate of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation, on charges of bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes.
Police suspect that during the period when Kang's victory was considered highly likely, the company head handed him money and valuables on two occasions and asked for business favors.
