The first update has been released on singer Jeong Dong-won, who voluntarily enlisted in the Marine Corps.
KFN (formerly Defense TV) livestreamed the Marine Corps 1327th class graduation ceremony on YouTube on the 2nd. Born in 2007, Jeong Dong-won entered the Marine Corps Education and Training Regiment on Feb. 23 and attended the ceremony.
Jeong Dong-won was caught on camera with a sun-darkened face. Wearing a Marine Corps dress uniform, Jeong attended the event, sang the national anthem and military songs with fellow trainees, and gave a crisp salute.
Before enlisting, Jeong Dong-won was embroiled in several controversies. Jeong received a suspension of indictment for driving without a license and, earlier in 2023, was also caught riding a motorcycle on the Dongbu Arterial Road in Seoul, which is for automobiles only.
After the controversy erupted, Jeong Dong-won decided to enlist. The agency said, "This was a decision in line with a long-held intention," adding, "Jeong made a responsible choice to keep a promise with himself."
Jeong Dong-won gained recognition by placing fifth on TV CHOSUN's audition program "Mr. Trot" in 2020.
