Police will refer the "drug kingpin" Park Wang-yeol, 47, to prosecutors in custody on the 3rd.
Acting Commissioner General Yoo Jae-seong of the Korean National Police Agency said at a regular press briefing on the 2nd, "We will thoroughly investigate additional crimes and track criminal revenue to the end," and stated accordingly.
Park Wang-yeol was extradited to Korea from the Philippines on the 25th of last month. Police have been investigating with a task force of 39 personnel centered on the Northern Gyeonggi Provincial Office.
Park Wang-yeol is accused of disguising 1.5 kg of methamphetamine in coffee pouches and bringing it into Korea in June 2024. He is also suspected of handing a bag containing 3.1 kg of methamphetamine to an accomplice in South Africa in July of the same year and instructing the person to smuggle it through Gimhae Airport.
Park Wang-yeol was arrested locally in 2020 for the killing of three Koreans in a sugarcane field in the Philippines in October 2016. He was later given a finalized prison sentence of a maximum of 60 years and a minimum of 52 years in 2022 and was incarcerated in a local prison, but he continued to smuggle drugs into Korea using Telegram even from inside the prison.
