In connection with the case in which a body was found in a suitcase in Daegu's Sincheon stream, a couple in their 20s—the daughter and son-in-law accused of killing the victim, the mother-in-law Jang—will undergo a detention review.
On Apr. 2 at 10:30 a.m., Detention Warrant Judge Son Bong-gi of the Daegu District Court will hold a pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant review) for the daughter, A, and the son-in-law, B. They are accused of abandoning a body and of parricide and abandoning a body, respectively.
B was found to have assaulted the victim, his mother, at his residence in Jung District, Daegu, on the 18th of last month, causing her death, then put the body in a suitcase, carried it on foot, and abandoned it near the Sincheon stream. The suitcase was discovered on the 31st of last month after a report came in that "a suitcase is floating in the Sincheon under the Jamsu Bridge in Chilseong-dong, Buk District, Daegu." A is said to have taken part in the body disposal process.
Police are said to have secured CCTV footage showing the couple pulling a suitcase and obtained their confessions. During questioning, A reportedly said, "I committed the crime because my mother-in-law was usually noisy and did not tidy up belongings."
Prosecutors sought arrest warrants for them on Apr. 1, and whether they are detained is expected to be decided this afternoon.
