The Ministry of the Interior and Safety said on the 2nd that it opened a pan-government Public AI Project Support Center at the Seoul office of the National Information Society Agency (NIA) in Jung District, Seoul.
The support center will systematically support the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) in the public sector. The government has set "the world's best AI democracy government" as a state agenda and is pushing the public sector's transition to AI as a key policy.
However, some public institutions are facing difficulties in pushing projects due to a lack of experience and expertise with AI technology.
In response, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) opened the center to support the overall difficulties that central ministries, local governments, and public institutions may encounter in the course of promoting AI projects. The center will be overseen by the ministry and operated by NIA. By linking private-sector capabilities such as the "AI Government Technical Advisory Group," which began operating on Mar. 31, it will provide support functions across the entire life cycle of public AI projects.
In addition, the center selected 30 core tasks for realizing an AI democracy government as priority support targets and will monitor and support progress by project.
Each institution can apply for ongoing online consulting through the center's website. The center plans to provide institution-specific consulting and AI resources.
Vice Minister Kim Min-jae of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) said, "AI is a key means that can simultaneously innovate administrative efficiency and citizen-facing services," adding, "We will actively support capacity building so that administrative and public institutions can effectively introduce and use AI."
