An active-duty Korea Coast Guard officer was arrested by police who had posed as a minor and were currently investigating.
The Incheon Seobu Police Station said on Apr. 2 that a man in his 30s, identified only as A, was arrested and is under investigation on suspicion of engaging in conversation for the purpose of sexual exploitation under the Act on the Protection of Children and Youth against Sex Offenses.
To carry out a crackdown targeting sex crimes against minors that began in Mar., police posed as minors on social media (SNS) and conducted an investigation. Authorities said they attempted a conversation after seeing A post content on the 30th suggesting prostitution on SNS and confirmed the suspected crime.
Police set up a meeting with A, met offline, and arrested A, and A is said to have given a statement admitting the crime.
The Incheon Coast Guard Station relieved A of duty and plans to proceed with procedures, including a disciplinary committee, depending on the outcome of the police investigation.
An official at the Incheon Coast Guard Station said, "We will strengthen internal inspections to prevent this from happening again."
