Regarding the case in which a body was found in a suitcase in Sincheon, Daegu, authorities secured a statement that the victim died after being assaulted by the son-in-law.
According to the Daegu Bukbu Police Station on the 1st, a couple in their 20s, identified as A and B, who were urgently arrested the day before on suspicion of abandoning a body, said that B, the son-in-law, assaulted the mother-in-law and caused her death. However, the reason B assaulted the mother-in-law has not yet been confirmed.
On the 18th, at their residence in Jung-gu, Daegu, they assaulted the victim, their mother. When the victim died, they put the body in a suitcase, moved it on foot, and abandoned it near the Sincheon riverbank. The suitcase was found on the 31st after a report came in that "a suitcase is floating in Sincheon under the Jamsu Bridge in Chilseong-dong, Buk-gu, Daegu."
Police recovered the body and confirmed the identity, and while questioning the victim's family, urgently arrested the daughter and her husband. CCTV footage showing the couple pulling a suitcase was also secured, and once the footage was confirmed, the couple reportedly admitted to the crime.
Based on the suspects' statements, police plan to conduct an autopsy at 10:30 a.m. on the day at the National Forensic Service to determine the cause of the victim's death. They also plan to apply for arrest warrants as soon as the specific motive is confirmed.
