A former supervisor at the North Chungcheong Provincial Office of Education suspected of installing a hidden camera in a restaurant restroom has been arrested.
On Apr. 1, Senior Judge Lee Hyun-woo, who handles warrants at the Cheongju District Court, issued an arrest warrant for former supervisor A on suspicion of filming using a camera under the Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes, saying there was a risk of flight during a pre-arrest suspect interrogation (substantive warrant review).
Appearing at the Cheongju District Court at about 1:30 p.m. that day, A answered "I'm sorry" to reporters' questions such as "When did you start planning the crime," "How many videos did you record in total," and "Do you have anything to say to the victims?"
A is suspected of installing a lighter-shaped camera in a public restroom at a restaurant in Sannam-dong, Seowon District, Cheongju, North Chungcheong, on Feb. 25 and filming customers' bodies.
A was caught in the act by police after a customer who found the camera in the restroom reported it. A was said to have purchased the camera a few days before the crime.
The North Chungcheong Provincial Office of Education held a disciplinary committee meeting on Mar. 24 and dismissed A.
