A Namsung in his 60s was arrested after killing his ex-wife at an apartment in Seocho District, Seoul, and attempting to abandon the body in a wooded hill in Eumseong, North Chungcheong.
On the afternoon of the 1st, Lee Ji-young, Director General in charge of warrants at the Seoul Central District Court, issued an arrest warrant for a person surnamed Lee on charges of murder and attempted abandonment of a body after conducting a pre-arrest suspect interrogation (substantive warrant review), saying there was a risk of flight.
Appearing at court at about 2:36 p.m., Lee did not answer reporters' questions such as "Why did you kill your ex-wife?" and "Do you have anything to say to your family?"
On the 30th at about 11:20 a.m., Lee is suspected of killing his ex-wife in her 50s at an apartment in Umyeon-dong, putting the body in a suitcase, loading it into his car, and fleeing.
Responding to a report from the son that said "I can't reach my parents," police rushed to the scene and at about 5 p.m. urgently arrested Lee as Lee tried to abandon the body in a drainage ditch by a grave in a wooded hill in Eumseong, North Chungcheong.
Lee is believed to have driven around the areas of Wonju and Yeongwol in Gangwon and Jecheon in North Chungcheong for about five hours to evade police pursuit. In a police interview, Lee reportedly said the crime was impulsive during a scuffle over asset partitioning with the ex-wife.
The Seocho Police Station in Seoul, which is investigating the case, finished the autopsy to determine the victim's exact cause of death on this day and is waiting for a reply from the National Forensic Service. Multiple signs of assault were reportedly found on the body.
