Police have launched an investigation after a suitcase containing a woman's body was found in Sincheon, which runs through downtown Daegu.
According to Daegu Bukbu Police Station and others on the 31st, at about 10:30 a.m. that day, a report came in that a suitcase containing a body had been found under the submerged bridge in Chilseong-dong, Buk-gu, Daegu.
Police dispatched to the scene retrieved it and, upon inspection, confirmed that a woman's body was inside the suitcase.
However, as the suitcase drifted in the water, the exterior of the body was reportedly somewhat altered. No ID or other belongings were found, so the woman's identity remains unconfirmed.
To identify the deceased, police collected fingerprints and DNA from the body and sent them to the National Forensic Service, and plan to check missing-person records as well.
Once the deceased is identified, police plan to determine the person's last known location before death and analyze nearby closed-circuit (CC)TV footage to trace movements.
Police said that, based on their investigation, no signs of homicide using a weapon were found on the exterior of the body discovered that day.
However, considering that the body was found under unusual circumstances, police said they are also looking into the possibility that the woman found that day died from a toxic substance and plan to conduct an autopsy.
