Police have launched an investigation after allegations surfaced that a former jewelry store employee embezzled about 1 billion won worth of gold products.
The Jongno Police Station in Seoul said on the 31st that on the 26th it booked a former employee, identified as A, who had been in charge of managing gold at a jewelry store in Jongno District, on suspicion of occupational embezzlement.
A is suspected of swapping about 1 billion won worth of gold products for plated items while handling gold management on behalf of the store owner.
The store owner, identified as B, reportedly confirmed the crime through the store's closed-circuit (CC) TV and reported A to police on the 25th of last month.
Police completed the complainant interview and plan to summon A soon to investigate the motive and the exact scale of the damage.
