The chair and the operations committee chair of the Seoul Gangseo District Council, suspected of hiring corruption, were arrested by police.
On the morning of the 31st, Kim Ji-hyeon, Director General and judge in charge of warrants at the Seoul Southern District Court, held a pretrial detention hearing (substantive warrant review) for Chair a person surnamed Park and Operations Committee Chair a person surnamed Jeon, who are suspected of bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, and issued the warrants, saying there is a concern about destruction of evidence.
In Oct. last year, after receiving a request for investigation from the Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission that there were suspicions they exerted undue pressure in the process of hiring staff for the Gangseo District Council, police searched and seized the district council and have been investigating Park and Jeon as suspects.
