There were two fires at Hanyang Women's University on the 30th. Police arrested a woman in her 20s at the scene on suspicion of arson.
The Seongdong Fire Station in Seoul received a report at about 9:10 a.m. that a fire had broken out in a restroom on the first basement floor of the main building at Hanyang Women's University in Seongdong District and was dispatched.
According to fire authorities, the fire started in a restroom trash can, and about 100 people evacuated. The fire burned part of the trash can and was extinguished at about 9:31 a.m., roughly 20 minutes later.
Around 12 p.m., a fire also broke out at the faculty hall building. However, it reportedly went out on its own without a separate fire department dispatch.
No casualties from the fires were confirmed.
A police official said, "We arrested a woman in her 20s on suspicion of arson and are determining whether she is a student at the school." Police are investigating the exact cause of the fires.
