On the 21st, about 19,000 foreign spectators visited the Gwanghwamun Square area, where BTS held its comeback performance.
According to Seoul City resident population data on the 27th, between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on the 21st, the resident population around Gwanghwamun Square, Deoksu Palace, and City Hall Station totaled 75,927.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government provides data estimating the resident population in 250㎡ units, and this result was calculated based on that data for the area from Gwanghwamun to City Hall Station, Deoksu Palace, and around the Sogong-dong Community Service Center.
Among them, 19,170 were foreigners, accounting for about 25% of the total. Specifically, long-term foreign residents staying 91 days or more numbered 13,889, outnumbering short-term foreign residents (5,281). This is interpreted to mean that the share of foreigners residing in Korea, such as international students, was larger than that of tourists.
Seoul's resident population data are estimates based on mobile carrier base station data of the population gathered at specific times and locations. Using immigration statistics on foreigners, it also estimates the number of foreigners present at specific times and locations by nationality and includes tourists who are not registered as foreign residents.
The estimates showed that, by nationality, foreigners at the BTS venue ranked as follows: Thailand (1,740), Vietnam (1,184), India (1,126), and Japan (1,098).
According to Seoul's real-time urban data, at 8:30 p.m. on the 21st, the day of the performance, an estimated 46,000 to 48,000 people were gathered near Gwanghwamun and Deoksu Palace.
A city official said, "Foreign tourists who do not use roaming services are not included in the real-time urban data," and noted, "Resident population data, which are released with a time lag, are more accurate."
HYBE, the concert organizer, estimated that a total of 104,000 people gathered at the time of the performance.
