The Ministry of the Interior and Safety said on the 27th that it inspected safety management conditions at the Jinhae Gunhangje festival venue in Changwon, South Gyeongsang.
Kim Gwang-yong, head of the Disaster Safety Management Office at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS), held a meeting that day with related agencies including South Gyeongsang Province, Changwon City, Jinhae District, and the Gunhangje Committee, and checked safety management measures across the festival, such as crowd and traffic control and the emergency response system.
Marking its 64th year, the Jinhae Gunhangje is one of Korea's leading spring flower festivals, drawing more than 3 million people annually. It runs from today through April 5.
After the meeting, Deputy Minister Kim moved along key routes at the venue and inspected fire extinguishers, electrical distribution panels, and gas facilities in preparation for potential fires. He also checked for any risk of bottlenecks where people might converge at once.
He received a briefing on managing the instantaneous maximum capacity in areas prone to crowding, such as Yeojwa Stream and Jungwon Rotary. He then called for immediate access control and clear detour guidance once the capacity is exceeded, so responses proceed without a hitch.
Deputy Minister Kim said, "We will work with related agencies to ensure thorough on-site safety management so visitors can fully enjoy Jinhae's beautiful cherry blossoms with peace of mind," adding, "We also ask visitors to actively follow the guidance of on-site safety personnel to maintain order."
