Police launched an investigation after receiving a report that a foreign tourist visiting Korea was raped and illegally filmed by a Korean man she met through a chat application.
The Yeonsu Police Station in Incheon said on the 25th that it booked a man in his 20s, A, on suspicion of camera-based filming under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes and is questioning him.
A is suspected of illegally filming the body of B, a Hungarian woman, at a residence-style lodging facility in Yeonsu District, Incheon, on the afternoon of the 23rd.
On the day of the incident, B reported to police, saying, "A raped me and illegally filmed the process."
Responding officers confirmed some illegal filming on A's mobile phone at the scene and arrested A in the act. After initial questioning, A was released and is currently not detained.
The two are understood to have first met through a chat app. In the police investigation, A reportedly partially admitted the illegal filming allegation but denied the rape allegation.
A police official said, "We plan to summon B again soon to investigate the specific circumstances of the case," adding, "The two sides' claims conflict over the rape allegation, so we plan to conduct additional questioning later."
