Police decided not to release the identity information of a woman in her 30s suspected of killing her 3-year-old daughter six years ago.
The Women's Safety Division of the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency said it convened a committee to review the release of identity information for a woman in her 30s, identified as A, from 10:30 a.m. on the 25th and decided as such.
A police official said, "We comprehensively considered that the bereaved family hopes for non-disclosure due to concerns about secondary harm if (A's) identity information is released."
A was urgently arrested on the 16th and detained on the 19th on suspicion of abusing her then-3-year-old daughter, B, to death at an apartment in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung, in Mar. 2020.
A denied the child abuse but, in a police interrogation the day before, gave a confession to the effect that she killed the child. Accordingly, the charge was changed from child abuse resulting in death to murder, prompting the convening of the identity disclosure review committee.
To conceal B's death, A applied to defer school entry in line with the start of elementary school in 2024. This year, it was found that A took to the school, in place of B, the nephew of a man who was in a romantic relationship with A at the time.
